First it was "engineer" and then it was "communications consultant". We shouldn't have to put ourselves in boxes. Why do the forms care anyway?
Hmm. Moving along.

So "writer" I don't have a problem with. I write, so I'm a writer. The one I have block with is "author". Somehow that implies to me the writer is published - which I am in a non-fic/marketing capacity, and a blog capacity, but not in a fiction capacity. So until I manage the last, I don't feel like an "author"...
Ellen Gregoryhttp://ellenvgregory.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7533863427856291179.post-70807413575914162932013-07-30T15:31:38.031-05:002013-07-30T15:31:38.031-05:00Thanks, Kristin. I agree with Nadine: a writer is someone who regularly writes. I have a lot of respect for those who brave the "white page" and push past their doubts or moods or feelings or circumstances to write. Like a good workout, there's no better feeling than finishing another writing episode. Your love of words and ability to weave them into thoughtful and meaningful posts here has always projected to me that clearly you are a talented writer. Housewife, writer, nuclear physicist ... it's how you feel inside that counts. Those of us who regularly sit down at the page, creating, revising, and revising some more, who study our craft in whatever form that takes, are writers. Some of us will "make it," while most of us won't. But it doesn't change the commitment to our art.Nadine Feldmanhttp://nadinefeldman.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7533863427856291179.post-78417342592106968802013-07-29T07:14:25.390-05:002013-07-29T07:14:25.390-05:00Julie, I always describe you as "my sister wh...Julie, I always describe you as "my sister who is the blogger" when I want to differentiate between sisters. I've been doing this since your blog came up, so for me you were always a teacher and then a blogger. I hope that is OK with you. I can change and describe you as "my sister, the writer, who also has the blog" if you would prefer!Melinda Farrarnoreply@blogger.com
