Gorgeous lights. And THANK you for posting that skinny French Santa photo on my blog, I've always wanted one of those too, climbing in windows and sneaking down chimneys. Kind of how Halloween went from being a quirky, one night holiday in which you make a funky costume, carve a pumpkin and go trick-or-treating to an over-sugared two week extravaganza with one event after another. I've never ventured into the craziness of Black Friday, nor do I understand the mentality. Definitely not my thing. I just came back from a long weekend in Oregon, and when I switched on the radio in my rental car, they were already playing Christmas music! Wait, we haven't even had Thanksgiving yet! When I'm in Dijon I see multiple generations of families out strolling, eating, spending time together. My son announced that our traditional trek to the movies after dinner would be off as he and his girlfriend have to leave at 8pm to go stand in line at a store that plans to open at midnight. You see, he's in the market for a new TV and wants to get a jump start. I reminded him that I've invited his girlfriend's family over, who I am meeting for the first time. How would it look for both of them to leave? I am so annoyed. Curse you, Black Friday!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7533863427856291179.post-66226367195350924572011-11-15T07:40:56.773-06:002011-11-15T07:40:56.773-06:00What a wonderful story about the French Christmast...What a wonderful story about the French Christmastime. I used to go out on Black Friday when my kids were little. I don't so much anymore. I wouldn't dream of going on Thanksgiving. It's sick, I know, but we also go out Christmas eve for the same reason. It's become a tradition of sorts, like we drink sparkling wine when we're dying Easter Eggs. Have I mentioned I hail from a strange family. But it's easy to stay home. What bothers me more is that at least one of the radio stations here is already playing nonstop Christmas music. I like some of those songs but there's a season for it: Advent, as you so nicely say, and that hasn't started yet.Annette Gendlerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03006606888883773812noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7533863427856291179.post-39686323735895065102011-11-14T11:10:24.140-06:002011-11-14T11:10:24.140-06:00I loathe the commercialism of all these holidays. ...I loathe the commercialism of all these holidays.
