There would be less to undo when I cross into my 50s next year. But it's easy to say that now, since I haven't experienced serious health issues apart from an emergency appendectomy last year.

Another thing that wields great influence is attitude: Filling up on what we're passionate about vs. making up for an empty life with food.Scrollworkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09761198237613139398noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7533863427856291179.post-5470384776055680622012-05-31T23:03:39.265-05:002012-05-31T23:03:39.265-05:00All great suggestions for a better, healthier life...All great suggestions for a better, healthier lifestyle. Even though I'm not a regular dessert eater, I do toss sugar in the daily morning coffee. I am opting to drink tea more often these days, though, because I don't put sweetener in that. It's my only way out. I tried skipping the sugar and cream in the coffee and just don't like it otherwise. Tea is a great option.

I know I am lucky to have a healthy body, too. Exercise is key. Also a yoga convert. Just started a year ago, and I love it. The poses are always challenging, but I always feel so good afterward. And I get the best sleep on yoga class days.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09505661913107994459noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7533863427856291179.post-81956373450521146052012-05-28T11:26:34.216-05:002012-05-28T11:26:34.216-05:00Julie, these are great and sensible steps to offer...Julie, these are great and sensible steps to offer people. I would add limiting sugar intake -- I don't deny myself treats, but I don't have them all the time, either.

As you know, I'm a long-time yoga practitioner. We women at midlife don't need the fancy poses, and we need instructors who understand the needs of the aging female body -- but I am convinced that the yoga has done more to keep me young than anything else that I do.

Thanks for the shout out! I think what's most fun for me about my active lifestyle is that I spent years being disabled by Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I don't take my health for granted, and feeling great at 53 is a surprising delight!Nadine Feldmanhttp://nadinefeldman.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7533863427856291179.post-40854231295256963172012-05-28T02:32:59.896-05:002012-05-28T02:32:59.896-05:00I do very poorly on all the recommendations for go...I do very poorly on all the recommendations for good health. I tend to fall back on the longevity of my parents. Papa golfed, but Mama made it to nearly 96 with a fairly sedentary lifestyle. I'm beginning now to realize the ill-effects of lack of exercise.

But I laugh to hear you consider fifty as anywhere near over-the-hill. It was when I hit 70 that I finally felt that I could no longer consider myself at the upper edge of middle age. Oh well. Never an athlete, never an athlete.Lee Ihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15721969338069074639noreply@blogger.com
